What are other approaches to assessment of institutional goals?
A department assessment committee does periodic direct assessment of student writing samples and indirect assessment of course materials and writes a report to submit to university general education committee. I'm not sure how assessment is done for the upper-level writing intensive courses in the gen ed program.

Clarification: We offer peer tutoring within the basic writing course through our Embedded Writing Specialist Program. Our targeted optional writing course is a 1-credit hour course with one-on-one supplemental writing instruction taught by a member of our department.

Student who pass can enter WRT 1050. Students can also choose to take an optional placement exam at the end of basic writing to skip WRT 1050 and go right into WRT 1060, the general education writing foundations requirement.
